About the Opportunity
A leading Canadian gold mining company is seeking a Mine Planner to join its Technical Services team.
The role is responsible for the development, optimisation, and execution of underground mine plans in narrow vein cut-and-fill and longhole stoping environments, ensuring safe and efficient production while maximising resource recovery and controlling dilution.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop short-term plans (drive layouts, construction plans, paste fill layouts) and medium-term mine designs
- Design cut-and-fill stopes (3-month shapes) and supporting infrastructure for narrow vein deposits
- Incorporate geotechnical, ventilation, equipment, and scheduling constraints into mine designs
- Perform rapid optimisation based on short- and mid-term operational guidance
- Follow detailed production schedules (daily, weekly, monthly, annual)
- Conduct month-end analysis and data compilation
- Assess dilution, recovery, and ore loss risks and recommend design improvements
- Conduct trade-off studies between cut-and-fill and longhole stoping methods
- Support stope performance reviews and post-mining reconciliation
- Work closely with operations and mobile maintenance teams to optimise mine design
- Maintain planning files, documentation, design criteria, and standards (Deswik)
- Prepare reports and present planning updates to site management
Qualifications
Essential
- Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering or related discipline
- Minimum 2 years of underground mine planning experience
- Demonstrated experience in narrow vein cut-and-fill mining and longhole stoping
- Proficiency with mine planning and scheduling tools (e.g., Deswik)
Desirable
- P.Eng. or eligibility for registration
- Experience with paste or cemented backfill systems
- Familiarity with geotechnical inputs for stope and panel design
- Exposure to operational mine sites and short-term planning environments
Compensation & Benefits
- $95,000 to 120,000 (Competitive salary aligned with experience)
- Opportunity to work in a technically driven underground mining operation
Working Conditions
- Office environment with occasional underground exposure
- Exposure to noise, dust, and varying ground conditions
- 4/3 rotational schedule at Macassa Mine
