Job purpose The Industrial Engineer is responsible for analyzing operations and designing workflows and production processes to reduce costs, minimize inefficiencies, and ensure that final products meet established quality delivery standards. The Industrial Engineer makes sure that the company’s operational systems make the best use of its resources (i.e., human capital, machines, material, information, etc.); and adjusts the company’s operational processes to continuously improve efficiency.
Duties and responsibilities
Identify opportunities for improvement and make informed recommendations by analyzing operations, performing value stream analysis, ergonomic job surveys, time and work studies, and reviewing job loads.
Design, redesign, or enhance work areas and facility layouts to minimize health and safety issues, maximize productivity, and meet quality standards; install new equipment and layouts as required.
Manage process documentation; prepare production reports, material and equipment lists, purchase orders, cost analyses, and estimated production costs.
Identify and assess problems and departures from established manufacturing standards and best practices; research and recommend appropriate solutions as required.
Analyze costs and inputs of production; implement control methods and modifications to reduce costs.
Champion the Total Productive Maintenance Program; as well as LEAN, Six Sigma, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Solicit and manage vendor relationships.
Lead in the research and development of new products.
Lead/Champion assigned projects to include but not limited to time lines, vendor management, Capex, through installation and launch.
Other related duties as assigned.
Skills and qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Industrial, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering required
Minimum 5 years of industrial, manufacturing, or engineering work experience required
Thorough understanding of ergonomics and applicable industry standards
Ability to travel between the US and Canada preferred, but not required.
Confident working in a manufacturing environment
Strong work ethic and self starter attitude
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Developed analytical and problem-solving skills
Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and related software
LEAN, Six Sigma, and/or TQM experience is strongly preferred
