Heavy Duty Equipment Mechanic – Open Pit

Work location: Canada 

Wage: $36 to $41 per hour

Job duties: 

 
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose and repair heavy mining equipment and ancillary equipment used in open-pit mining, such as shovels, drills, haul trucks, loaders, dozers, and excavators.
  • Identify and report risks, near misses and incidents with the goal of supporting and developing excellent safety standards.
  • Respond to mechanical issues in the maintenance shop and the field.
  • Use hand tools (e.g. Wrenches, screwdrivers), air and impact tools (e.g. Wrenches, drills), sledgehammers and hydraulic torque equipment.
  • Operate materials handling equipment (e.g., Hydraulic jacks and hoists, chains, overhead cranes, slings, come-a-longs), ladders, man-lifts, safety harnesses and lanyards, forklifts, small loaders, and trucks to access field repairs.

Skills, experience and education required:

  • Minimum 4 years of work experience repairing haul trucks, shovels, excavators and other heavy equipment in the mining industry.
  • Experience with OEM troubleshooting guides and systems.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • Ability to work in the shop and field
  • Understanding mining processes and mine monitoring control systems (operations and maintenance).
  • Good English communication skills both oral and written.
  • Knowledge of computer maintenance systems.
  • Experience creating parts lists from OEM web-based systems such as Caterpillar SIS preferred.
  • Red Seal Certification (Heavy Duty Equipment Technician) is preferred.
